(click on the image for a larger view) We found this interesting book at the public library of all places. The title is Scripture Animals or A Natural History of the Living Creatures Named in the Bible . This was written "especially for youth" by Jonathan Fisher (1768-1847), a congregational pastor in Blue Hill, Maine. The original book was published in 1834. According to the Wikipedia entry , Fisher was a Calvinist. I tried googling him but did not find much else on his theology. The animals are featured in alphabetical order. Each animal is illustrate with Fisher's own wood cuts. He gives the name of the animal in Hebrew, Greek, or Latin and sites the scripture references. He also provides details from his own studies of natural history. Fisher then gives a spiritual lesson in relation to the animal for the reader's edification.
