Market Day

We went to Smithfield, Virginia today for a little mother-daughter outing. Smithfield is best known as the Ham Capital of the World. However, historic downtown Smithfield has beautiful restored Victorian homes, antique shops, and fun eateries. We went primarily for the farmer's market. The Olde Town Market is an open air market held every Saturday during the summer. Local farmers and craftspeople bring their wares to sell. It's fun wandering from stall to stall seeing the produce, baked goods and crafts. One stall, Backyard Blooms, had beautiful flower bouqets for sale. The colors were so vibrant. Below is a picture of stall with homemade goat's milk soaps. The vendor makes the soap from scratch using milk from her own goats. The fragrance is heavenly. We bought some lilac soap which smells exactly like lilac blossoms. We finished our outing by purchasing apple butter from a mother-daughter business. They make wonderful baked goods and jams and jellies from their home. It...
