I'm scrapping The Green Bean Casserole Mystery.  I'm not cut out for semi-serious fiction especially with a deadline.  It's very time consuming to create a set of characters from scratch.  I was also getting very bored with the story (not a good motivator) and writing poorly.  Therefore, I am putting my ideas for this story on hold (such as using an ESV Study Bible as a blunt instrument and finding treasure clues in frozen green bean casseroles). Now it's time to take the easy way out, and the answer is... (drum roll, please) Fan Fiction! Yes, ladies and gentlemen.  I am resorting to lowly fan fiction for the 3rd time.  It's a dubious genre, but the characters are already developed and waiting to be absconded for my novel. So to better achieve ludicrous speed, I'm back to my blend of Doctor Who and reformed theology. Working title: The Dawning of the Age of Pelagius or The Finney Strikes Back . Plot (if it deserves that appellation): The Doctor a...

The Green Bean Casserole Mystery

As if I didn't have enough to do, I will be participating in this year's National Novel Writing Month ( NaNoWriMo) . The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November.  I completed the word goal in 2005 and 2006.   It was fun even though I wasn't the fastest typist.  Now that I type for a living, that will be the easy part at only 1667 words per day.  The hard part is the plot. I have 3 ideas for novels.  The 1st is a fusion of Dr. Who, time travel through church history, Pelagius as a time lord and leader of the Sith, with cameos appearances from   Calvinistic Cartoons  and other assorted nonsense.  The 2nd is a more serious murder/crime mystery in an academic setting.  The time constraint doesn't lend itself to serious and thoughtful writing, and my 2006 novel was a Doctor Who/Jane Austen blend.  Therefore, I have settled on a 3rd idea,  The Green Bean Casserole Mystery .  I don't want to spoil the...

The Doctor meets Spurgeon - is the gospel for alien life forms, too?

I wrote a novel for NaNoWriMo 2006. The story was a combination of Doctor Who and Jane Austen fan fiction. The Doctor, in his Chris Eccleston regeneration, takes a new companion to a Jane Austen virtual reality theme park in the 35th century that is being sabotaged by unknown enemies. There is a minor tribute to the mice of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, my pet bunnies make a cameo appearance, as does the mafia and Interpol. The Daleks and the Slitheens show up as some of the villains. Davros proposes to Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Sadly, he is rejected and is destined to nurse a broken heart the rest of his life. All in all, it was a very strange story and did not take itself seriously but I did get my 50000 words completed by November 30. My daughter read my novel last week and thought it was a hoot. I don't think she knew how odd my humor could be. She has come up with an idea for another story where we both go on the Tardis with the Doctor and Rose. We haven't de...
