Now all my heart's desire
Is to abide
In him, my Saviour dear,
In him to hide,
My shield and buckler he,
Covering and protecting me;
From Satan's darts I'll be
Safe at his side.
How do you know God is really for you?
Where should you look for proof that God is for you? Does it lie in the fact that your Christian life has been unbroken happiness? Does it lie in the fact that your Christian life has been one of ecstatic joy?
There is only one irrefutable answer to these questions. It cannot be found in our circumstances. It lies only in the provision that God has made for us in Jesus Christ.
This is the whole point of Paul's question in verse 32 (Romans 8:32). We can be sure that God is for us because this God, the God of the Bible, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up to the cross for us all.
If this is true, Paul affirms, we can be confident He will give us everything we need.
This is the only way we can know that God is for us.By Grace Alone, Sinclair Ferguson, Reformation Trust Publishing, page 70.

How I long for the day when I truly learn to fix my eyes on Jesus in spite of all the circumstances around me!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
What a great point! Our identity and assurance of God's love is not in our feelings or circumstances, but in Jesus Christ! Thanks for this reminder.
ReplyDeletethe only One worth holding onto, is holding onto me. I struggle with letting my emotions from circumstances control me. it isn't until i submit to God's will that I see reformation and have assurance.
ReplyDeleteAmen! This flies in the face of all the teachings that emphasize outward and external blessings. We know that God is for us because He reconciled us by way of Jesus Christ!
ReplyDeleteWhat an assuring quote, Amen! And I totally echo Christina's comment!
