11 Things You Didn't Want to Know About Me

1. I like to have a mental plan for my posts each week. However, if I don't have enough time to write (like this morning), I will shamelessly borrow ideas like this one.

2. Coffee or tea? Tea! In the summer, unsweetened iced tea sometimes with a smidgen of lemonade.

3. Chocolate? Most definitely! Dark, Trader Joe's Pound Plus bar, but not all at once.

4.  Food? Home-style comfort, not fancy-schmancy gourmet.

5. I've entered and finished NaNoWriMo three times. The stories would be categorized as fan fiction because it is easier to borrow characters than invent your own. I don't take my novels very seriously as the last one was fan fiction based on Calvinist humor blogs with church history, Star Wars, and Doctor Who thrown into the mix. Maybe I'll post it one day with profuse apologies to Messieurs Duncan, Eddings, Slawson, Luther, Spurgeon, and Owen.

6. Another example of less-than-serious writing: I once wrote a duet for Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine (Pride and Prejudice) set to Rogers and Hammerstein's Sixteen Going on Seventeen.

7. I stopped watching television years ago but not to make any particular moral statement. There were so many other things I preferred to do that I never had the time to turn on the tube. TV's don't have cathode ray tubes anymore, do they?

8.  Speaking of old technology, I remember IBM main frames, fan-fold print outs, and punching cards.

9. To further date myself, I have never sent a text message. My cell phone is an old, rather chunky one with a telescoping antenna. I use it as ... a phone.

10. I cannot remember what it is like to wake up in the morning and see in focus. I  am looking forward to a glorified body without myopia or presbyopia.

11.  I was fiddling around with Picnik (hurry before they close shop) and came up with this. I just need to figure out how to make an arm for Calvin's glasses.

  1. Interesting read. But (and I have to ask) why eleven and not a dozen?

...I may have to "borrow" this idea sometime in the future myself!

  2. I don't why it's 11 and not 12. I think Ink Slinger borrowed this from Challies, so may Challies knows the answer.

  3. Haha! Great post, Persis. I laughed at loud when I read #9. What a curious concept, using a phone as a phone! ;) The picture of Calvin is awesome, too.

About the number... Challies original post was 25 Stupendously Boring Things You Didn't Want to Know About Me.

I liked the idea, but decided to go for a smaller odd number: 11. :)

  5. That's great. We shall have to see some of this Calvinistic writing of yours...

  6. So that's where 11 comes from: right before 12 and way before 25.

Thanks, Sister. If I didn't have to run off, I could write "12 Reasons I Love Pilgrim Mommy." Today would be a good day for it... it is Tuesday, after all.

    HAPPY BALLANTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!

  7. Love it! I may borrow this as well. I was just thinking this morning about the good ol' days of blogging where blogger's block could be easily overcome by a meme tag or a cheesy award. Do bloggers still do those? Anyway, great list!

  8. This is great, Persis. The surprises on here were that you've never sent a text message and that you like home-style comfort food instead of gourmet. My texting friends are very limited, but like you, I much prefer comfort over gourmet.

  9. I disagree with the title of this post - I very much DID want to know that you are a tea person and not a coffee person :)
