This week's list of thanksgivings:
Welcome relief from the heat. The last few days have been near 100 with high humidity. A thunderstorm rolled through last night bringing blessedly cool air.
Reminders of God's creation. I finally put out the thistle feeder and was quickly rewarded. It took hardly any time for the goldfinches and house finches to find it.
God's providence over car tires, visitation adjustments, work load, and a pregnant cat.
My daughter's eagerness to pitch in with the household chores.
Lately I've been grieving over the state of the church at large, the agendas of men, and the wounded sheep. But these verses give me comfort and hope:
Husbands love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Eph. 5:25-27
I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matt. 16:17b
Then I saw a new heaven and earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away; and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe way every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new."

It didn't storm here, but the temps dropped about 20 degrees, a very welcome break from the heat!
ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned my thankfulness for cooler temps the last couple of days in my post too...especially being without air conditioning right now!
ReplyDeleteI love those cheerful little gold finches.
As sad as the visible church is today, the church triumphant is jsut that.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit cooler here too, praise God! Great list and I agree with you regarding the verses.
ReplyDeleteThose verses give me comfort and hope too.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful a gift the rain is, Persis! We're praying for more.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for you that the cat is still pregnant? :)
Such encouraging words from His Word!
@Trisha:
ReplyDeleteNo kittens as of this morning. Kitty momma was meowing a lot. I don't know if it's because she was lonely or hungry and anxious to be fed or if she's starting to have contractions.
The weather has been wonderful the last couple of days. Thankful for the break from the heat and humidity. Trying to be more concious of what I have to be thankful for each day.
